Our Cattle & Stud
Our Stud
At Springside Highlands, we strive to produce sound, healthy animals with outstanding temperaments that are true to type and a great representation of the breed.
We are proud registered members of the Australian Highland Cattle Society (AHCS) and our stud is also LPA Accredited. As dedicated members of the NSW Highland Breeders Group, we are actively involved in organising events and educational seminars around the region.
Our passion lies in preserving this heritage breed, and we are committed to educating and sharing our knowledge and experiences with others.
All our cows are treated as part of the family and are bred and raised with welfare as our top priority. Their wellbeing is the most important thing to us.
We use a combination of natural service, frozen semen, artificial insemination (AI), and embryo transfer (ET) to source quality genetics for our fold. Our aim is to continually improve our breeding standards and produce high-quality animals.
Available Cattle & Calves
When we have cattle or calves available, they come NLIS tagged with NVD paperwork, full husbandry records, drenched, vaccinated (7in1 and Pestigard), NT821 and Pesti free, parent verified, and copies of registration paperwork (where applicable).
Our calves are weaned around 6-8 months of age. Until then, they are raised by their mums. We do not have bottle-fed babies unless absolutely necessary for health reasons. This ensures excellent immunity and overall health of the calf, as well as important social development and reduced stress levels for both mother and baby.
We usually have both Autumn and Spring calvers. Please feel free to contact us for more information and cattle availability. If not sold prior to advertising, any cattle looking for their new home will be advertised here on our website, or on our Facebook and Instagram.
Meet the Fold
Did you know a herd of Highland Cows is called a “Fold”? Our fold consists of some beautiful cattle, all registered with the Australian Highland Cattle Society. We also have a few Miniature Galloways in the mix! And they are just as friendly and cute!
Jezzabelle of Springside
Jezzy loves her food! She is always sniffing around our pockets for a treat and certainly knows what she wants and when she wants it. A doting mum, she is often found babysitting all the calves.
Caramilk of Springside
Caramilk is always first to the fence for food and she’s not afraid to make sure she’s first in line for a treat. She loves to be hand fed.
Maple of Springside
Maple is a very calm cow, she is polite, gentle and a very good mum. Her dun colouring is a favourite!
Fenella of Flidais
One of the most special cows to us here at Springside, Fenella is definitely a favourite with everyone who meets her. She has the most amazing temperament you will ever find, she is calm and docile with just the right amount of curious. Nothing phases her, she really is the most placid cow we own.
Lilibet of Flidais
A sister to Fenella but with a completely different personality! Lilibet is a bit shy until she gets to know you. You can tell she wants to be part of all the action but she’s not very confident and needs to build trust. She is a really well put together cow with great conformation and structure.
Lori of Thompsons PT
Lori is always first to the brush, she’s a very quiet cow who loves nothing more than to push her way in for all the attention!
Bellatrix of Cambus Glen
Bellatrix also loves a brush with her favourite scratch spot being under the chin. She has the most luscious, sleek coat and is a bit of a sassy pants!
Caviar of Minard
Caviar reminds us of an old soul, she has these beautiful deep eyes and she’s a very doting mum, even when her calves won’t listen to her!
Marmalade of Minard
Marmalade is a larger framed cow with a traditional set of long majestic horns. She tends to keep to herself and although larger in size she is definitely not the boss.
Sparkle of Tamnilloo
Affectionately known as “Panda”, she was our first calf ever born here at Springside. Panda is a Purebred Miniature Galloway and is very special to us.
Twinkle of Tamnilloo
Another Miniature Galloway, Twinkle is short and stocky and full of character. White with black points, she is the one you will usually hear bellowing for food or attention.
Strawberry
Strawberry is a Miniature Galloway X Highland. This means she is still quite fluffy like the Highlands but without the horns! Strawberry has a very sweet nature, she is only young but already loves a brush and attention.
